JTI donates vehicles, motorbikes to ministry of labour

JTI Leaf Malawi Limited, one of the Country’s tobacco buying companies, has today donated two vehicles and two motorcycles to Ministry of Labour to assist in its operations.

Limbani Kakhome, JTI Leaf Malawi corporate affairs and communications Director said in December 2021 JTI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ministry of Labour for the ministry to be conducting labour inspections in JTI contracted farms to ensure that labour standards are being met.

According to Kakhome, JTI has then decided to make the donation, to ease mobility challenges that the ministry officials were facing in getting to the farms for inspection.

Vera Kamtukule, Minister of Labour thanked JTI for the support, saying the Ministry had no enough vehicles to enable it conduct the inspections effectively.

“These vehicles are going towards those districts that we are operating with JTI, one vehicle is going to our regional office here in Lilongwe, another one is going to Kasungu District Labour Office while the two motorcycles will go to Mchinji and Dowa District Labour Offices, “said Kamtukule.
