Kabambe speaks on alternative governance models

UTM president, Dalitso Kabambe has proposed a model of governance that will embrace diverse political ideologies for the good of the nation.

He has posted on his Facebook Page that challenges affecting the nation are not only for the governing party to solve; as Malawi belongs to all, irrespective of varying political affiliations.

Kabambe: We need to change.

The UTM leader has made the declaration amidst one of the worst fuel and forex shortages, and also one of the worst times the country has experienced power outages and medicines deficit in public hospitals.

“Our national debt has now climbed into the trillions. These are not talking points to be celebrated or weapons to use against one another,” reads in part his statement adding, the status can change if the nation can choose different politics.

Particularly, Kabambe has suggested, politics rooted in responsibility, compassion and a shared purpose.

“Let us stop asking which party will benefit from the countrys pain and start asking how we can end it.

For, this country does not belong only to those in power. It belongs to all of us,” he adds.

Kabambe, an economist and ex-Reserve Bank of Malawi governor has faulted politics of hate, and opportunism whose beneficiaries have chiefly been politicians at the expense of the larger population.

On the other hand, he has cautioned government to serve with a sense of solemn responsibility towards bettering lives of the people it governs and urged the opposition to assist responsibly.

“Being in opposition must not be a license to wish the country harm. The people in power may be our political opponents, but the country is not theirs alone – and its problems do not stop at party lines,” he says.
