Minister of health- Khumbize Chiponda has officially opened a self-contained paying ward at Kachere Rehabilitation Center in Blantyre.
The construction which is worth 50-million-kwacha is a donation from General Alliance Insurance Limited.
According to Tom Mwamadi, Board Chair for Malawi Against Physical Disability, with the donation- rooms at the facilities have increased to 50.
Mwamadi, has however said there is need for the country to have more of these centers to ably reach out to those in need of rehabilitative services.
Speaking to MIJ Online after the donation, Mordechai Msisha Director for General Alliance said the gesture is a response to the serious shortage of medical and other facilities in the country.
In her remarks, Chiponda commended the gesture saying the ministry needs such support in areas of rehabilitation and physical disability.
The minister has since said government will work on ensuring that rehabilitative services are provided for in all the country’s regions.
Meanwhile, Kachere Rehabilitation Center among other offers- Physical Therapy and Occupational therapy services.
