Khrishna consciousness believers celebrate Ratha Yatra in Malawi

An emphasis has been made on the need for Malawians and people all over the world to develop God’s consciousness through meditations for their spiritual growth.

The sentiments have been made of the weekend as a religious grouping called Krishna Movement being spread by the International Society of Krishna Consciousness observed the Festival of Chariots where Khrishna consciousness believers celebrate the presence of God among them.

Speaking to MIJOnline, Southern Africa Regional Priest-Savyasaci Das-said the pulling of the chariot (Ratha Ratra) festival symbolizes the pulling of God into one’s heart.

“What we are doing is that we are pulling the chariot and singing the name of God, symbolizing the pulling back of God into our hearts.

This is one of those festivals in a calendar full of many festivals. Our philosophy is that; any excuse to remember God. Also, because God takes on many forms, he also has many appearance days”.

According to the monk, without God in our lives, human beings cannot function properly hence the day promotes God’s consciousness into people’s hearts.

“Every human being must be connected to the Lord through worship and prayer, then they become happy,” said the priest
