MACRA completes FM Frequency band expansion

Suleman: We have drawn positives.

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has successfully expanded the FM Frequency Band to meet the growing demand from radio stations.

The completion of the FM frequency Band re-faming exercise, is aimed at reducing congestion in the broadcasting sector.

The move now allows up to 150 new radio station applicants seek frequency licenses.

MACRA’s Director General, Daudi Suleman, emphasized that this milestone will foster job creation, sector growth, and healthy competition.

The licensing of new frequencies is now categorized into national, regional, and community levels, simplifying radio tuning for listeners.

Suleman assured collaboration with stakeholders to ensure smooth public access to the expanded frequencies.
