The Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority has intensified measures to deal with mobile fraud which is rampant in the country.
This comes as today Malawi has joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Consumer Rights Day which is under the theme “Fair digital finance”.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Daudi Suleman, Director General of Malawi Regulatory Authority has said the regulator is starting to register handsets using the Central Equipment Identification Register to reduce digital fraud.
“Our body will in the next thirty days launch a call center for people to report mobile fraud cases”, Suleman.
Apart from that, the regulator, plans to continue conducting consumer education programs regarding the electronic Transactions and cyber Security Act which provides for the protection of all internet users from any form of abuse and exploitation.
According to Suleman, there will be various activities within the month to reflect on the theme which will include consumer protection and how to trace cyber bullies.
