A report by National Planning Commission – NPC has revealed that most of the country’s policies are misaligned and may not be talking to the implementation of the Malawi vision.
This was said during a validation workshop for a report on the assessment of sectoral policies’ alignment to areas of focus under Malawi 2063 Pillars and Enablers.
The report came as the National Planning Commission- NPC in collaboration with ministry of economic planning and United Nations Development programme-UNDP assessed alignment of existing sectoral policies to the focused interventions under the pillars and Enablers of the vision and Malawi 2063 Implementation Plan – MIP-1.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Andrew Jamali Research Manager at the National planning Commission said there is need to have a re-look at some Policies saying many of them are misaligned and would not help in the implementation of Malawi 2063.
He cited the National Agriculture Policy and Gender policy as some of those policies having some areas that are not speaking to Malawi 2063.
On his part, Professor Happy Kayuni Dean of faculty of social science at the university of Malawi said it is important to align the country’s policies to Malawi 2063 saying implementation of the policies would mean Malawi achieving the Vision.
According to Kayuni, the country was not aggressive enough to make sure that the policies then, are aligned to vision 2020 and that’s one of the reasons the vision failed.
