The media has been tasked to advance core aims of the Malawi 2063, development blueprint.
The call has been made at a media engagement in Salima where the Malawi Economic Justice Network (MEJN) is weighing in on the roles of the media in advancing national agenda.
Speaking during the opening of two days training, Bertha Phiri MEJN Executive Director said the media is a vehicle that relays information of all development hence the need to equip the media with knowledge meant to promote social accountability to support the country’s growth.
Phiri said the meeting will also expand a ten-year short plan called MIP 1 which was launched by President Lazarus Chakwera earlier this year.
The meeting brought together journalists from the MIJ FM radio, Malawi Broadcasting Cooperation (MBC), Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS), Nation Publications, Times, Rainbow TV, Gaka and Nyanthepa Community Radios.
MEJN is implementing the project dubbed Strengthening Social Acountability and Oversight in monitoring the implementation of Malawi Growth Development Strategy 3 (MGDS 3) in Nsanje and Salima districts with funding from the IM Swedish Partners.
In Nsanje district, they are working with Area Development Committees from Malemia, Chimombo and Ndamera while Salima are in the areas of Traditional Authorities Ndindi, Makanjira and Ulunda on capacity building on tracking development from their district councils.
