The Anti- Corruption Bureau – ACB has arrested two top government officials and AFORD Leader Enoch Chihana over their alleged involvement in the awarding of Fuel Importation deals at NOCMA.
On Monday ACB summoned for questioning Newton Kambala, Minister of Energy,Chris Chaima Presidential Aide and AFORD leader Enoch Chihana before handing them over to area 3 police.
The arrest of the 3 follows a complaint that was lodged by Hellen Buluma NOCMA deputy CEO that some senior government officials were pressurising her to award contracts to companies of their choice.
Speaking to MIJ FM earlier before his arrest, Chihana said he is not afraid as he is innocent.
On his part, Frank Mwenifumbo UTM spokesperson, who was among the team that escorted Kambala to the Police station said the arrest of their fellow member has nothing to do with disagreements in the Tonse Alliance.
And in a related development ACB Director General Martha Chizuma has revealed the resurfacing of the former President Bakili Muluzi’s case saying the ACB now sees it viable.
Chizuma disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing in Lilongwe.
Speaking to MIJ FM, Chizuma said now ACB will be waiting for the Supreme Court’s ruling on the matter before proceeding with the case.
She added that the Bureau is also ready to conduct an interview with former President Perter Mutharika next week saying the Bureau has received communication from his lawyers that he is now feeling well.
