The Ministry of Trade and Industry has warned Cement traders to stop selling the product at more than 16, ooo kwacha.
This is contained in a press statement released by the ministry.
It follows an assessment that the ministry conducted to appreciate the cause for the shortage of Cement on the market and also why the traders are charging exorbitant prices for the commodity.
According to the statement, the ministry engaged the local manufacturers to come up with the long-lasting solutions to the problem.
Among other reasons, the manufacturers are attributing the rise in cement prices to shortage of forex which has affected the importation of raw materials used in the production.
After the assessment, the ministry has found that currently, the ex-factory prices of different brands and strength are not exceeding k16,000 kwacha.
The ministry further, warns the traders who are selling cement at any price more than 16,000 kwacha to revise the prices downwards as relevant agencies will take necessary action to deal with the traders.
