MPs divided over ‘ownership’ of Interests capping bill

Disagreements have emerged in Parliament as two Members of Parliament are fighting over ownership of Interests Capping Bill.

The Bill that seeks to review interests which customers pay when they obtain a loan from a bank was first brought in the house by former MP for Dowa west Alexander Kusamba Dzonzi but the motion was rejected.

However, Abel Kayembe has re-tabled the motion seeking tabling of the Bill.

But Shadreck Namalomba MP for Mangochi South West claims the Bill belongs to him saying he drafted and submitted it to the Parliamentary secretariat.

However, Kayembe has told MIJ FM the Bill was brought to Parliament by his predecessor and that he is keen to follow it through its passing.
