Mzuzu Council use 13 million Kwacha on City Summit

The Mzuzu City Council is expected to spend about 13 Million Kwacha on its inaugural city summit scheduled to take place on 26 July, 2023.

According to Macdonald Gondwe spokesperson of the council, the summit which will bring together various stakeholders is a crucial activity in the council’s quest to find solutions to various challenges deterring its growth.

Meanwhile, Gondwe has told MIJ Online that preparations for the holding of the summit are at an advanced stage, and that they need about 13 million Kwacha to host the summit.

“We need about 13 million Kwacha to successfully host the event and this money will mainly cater logistical issues like banners and fuel among others. However, this money will not all come from the council as we have partnered with various organisations that are assisting us with resources for the hosting of the summit,” Gondwe said.

Earlier held in the cities of Blantyre and Lilongwe, the City Summit is an initiative being spearheaded by the ministry of local government with an aim of spurring growth of the cities in line with the Malawi 2063 Agenda as well as Sustainable development goals.

Revenue collection, waste management and illegal vending are among key areas that will be deliberated at length during the Mzuzu City summit which will be held under the theme “Urban Renewal and Economic Growth”.
