Network hurdles to end in rural areas

Malawians in remote areas should anticipate better mobile network reception as government has now mounted 26 mobile network towers across the country.

The Last Mile Rural Connectivity Project will enable people in rural communities have easy access to telecommunication services.

In an interview, Minister of Information, Mark Botomani said that the project intends to have over hundred towers as efforts to improve connectivity continue in the country.

“As we always say, this is a transformational project in which every Malawian, regardless of where they are or where they live, will be connected to a telephone network,” said Botomani.

Botomani has since described the project as critical to national development as people in remote areas will no longer face communication hurdles.

Last Mile Rural Connectivity Project is a Government of Malawi initiative aimed at providing universal access to telecommunication services by rural masses through the erecting of 136 towers countrywide.

The project is facilitated by Ministry of Information with funding China.
