A professor of law Edge Kanyongolo has said there is no law that authorizes the Attorney General or any branch of government to grant general amnesty for criminal offences.
The remarks come as the Attorney General has issued a 60-day general amnesty to individuals who defrauded government to surrender the said wealth.
According to Kanyongolo the AG has no legal power and that in his view the details of what he is saying is a bit irrelevant.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Bureau is reviewing the amnesty that the attorney general has given to people to surrender property people which was corruptly obtained in regards with Zunneth Sattar.
According to a statement signed by Egritta Ndala Public Relations officer of ACB the bureau has received so many inquiries on the directive and it is reviewing the amnesty in the context if the investigations it is currently conducting on allegations against Zunneth Sattar.
Ndala said the bureau will update the public on the decision it will take on the amnesty.
Meanwhile, experts have cast doubts on the effectiveness of the move as involved people cannot volunteer to pay back money.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Jai Banda, a money laundering expert has said the set sixty day may not be easily complied with by banks and people who might have been dealing with Sattar.
