Over 840 babies born in Malawi over Christmas

Over 840 babies were delivered on Christmas Day for this year, health authorities have told MIJ Online.

According to data provided by Adrian Chikumbe ministry of the health spokesperson, out of 16 districts in the country 849 babies were delivered.

Out of this, 417 are boys and 432 are girls.

However, the figure could go up as these are deliveries for 16 districts.

Chikumbe said the data is from public ,CHAM and public facilities.

He however said the figures could go up if the other districts were also included.

He said the data shows that the fertility rate is very high in some districts such as Mangochi were 102 babies were delivered a day and there is need to promote family planning in such districts.

The break down of the deliveries are as follows:

Mangochi 102(male 47 + female 55.

Phalombe 40 (20 male +20 Female)

Karonga39 (21 male + 18 female)

Machinga76 (30 male +46 female)

Salima 61 (30 male +31 female)

Dedza 27 (17males+ 10 females)

Dowa 66 (32 males +34 females

Mwanza 27 (13 males +14 females)

Ntchisi 33 (13 males +20 females)

Chitipa 1 9 (10 males +9 females)

Balaka 37 (21males +16 females)

Zomba 51(25males +26 females)

Rumphi 26 (13 males +13 females)

Lilongwe 61 (33 females, 28 males)

Nsanje 41 (26 males 15 females)

Mulanje 77 (44 females, 33 males)
