Malawi has raked over MK64 billion from tobacco sales, two weeks since the opening of this year’s market.
As of Friday April 26th, 2024, about 14 million kgs of tobacco of all types have been sold at a combined value of $37 million.
This is a jump from 8.1 million kgs of tobacco valued at $16 million sold in the same period last year.
Meanwhile Terephorus Chigwenembe spokesperson for the Tobacco Commission said trading is going on well at the auction floors, as the market is registering higher average prices as compared to last year.
