The Department of Immigration and Citizenship says it has so far received over thirty applications for dual citizenship and is processing those eligible for approval, about four months after the law was passed.
This comes as government gazetted the dual citizenship law in November last year after a long-standing outcry from Malawians especially those in the diaspora.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Wellington Chiponde-Public Relations Officer for Immigration department-said the department started receiving applications in January this year and is waiting for approval on some applications that were processed.
Chiponde however clarified that those eligible to acquire a dual citizenship are Malawians by birth and by descent.
