PAC summons Reserve Bank Governor over abuse of office, corruption reports

The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament has summoned the Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor Wilson Banda over abuse of office and corruption allegations.

The meeting takes place tomorrow. Confirming the development to MIJ Online Shadreck Namalomba, PAC Chairperson, said the Committee wants the Governor to explain what led to the loss of 12.8 billion kwacha at the Bank’s subsidiary company, Export Development Fund. Namalomba said apart from looking into the issues relating to the governor, the committee also want to inquire into other allegations of corruption practices by some Board members and Staff at EDF. He said, the committee will also question on the recruitment procedure of Export Development Fund Chief Executive Officer Gerald Nsomba which was also faulted by the Ombudsman Grace Malera.
