Parliament has today passed the Non-governmental Organizations (NGO) Amendment Bill that seeks to give the NGO Board the mandate to register and regulate the Organizations.
This is coming after three NGOs; Youth and Society Center for the Development of People and Center for Human Rights and Rehabilitation sought an injunction stopping Parliament from tabling the Bill saying no proper consultations were done on the Bill.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Agnes Nkusankhoma, Deputy minister of Gender said the Bill has come at the right time as it will improve accountability on how the NGOs use their funds.
On his part, Voice Mhone, Executive Director for NGO Board expressed excitement over the passing of the Bill, saying it will help bring sanity in the Non-governmental organizations sector.
