The Malawi Law Society has disclosed that political parties in the country are yet to submit documents indicating their sources of funding as required.
On March 27th, the High Court in Blantyre gave the office of the registrar of political parties 21 days to submit documents indicating where political parties get their finances as the Political Parties Act of 2018 provides for disclosure of sources of funding by political parties.
However, Gabriel Chembezi, Honorary Secretary for the Society has told MIJ Online that the society now intends to re-appeal in an event that the registrar fails to submit the documents by this week.
Meanwhile, Chembezi has said disclosure of sources of funding by political parties would help the country to ably deal with corruption and promote transparency.
