The Malawi Interfaith Aids Association has proposed the prosecution of tradition healers suspected to be encouraging people to defile children for traditional rituals.
Saiti Jambo, board member of Malawi Interfaith Aids Association – made the proposal at Enyezini in Mzimba where Reverend Peter Kandulu, principal resident magistrate delivered his ruling on two people accused of defilement.
The call comes as the country continues to register increased cases of defilement in which the convicts attribute their acts to instructions they receive from traditional doctors.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Jambo said it’s high time the country regulated the operations of traditional doctors.
Meanwhile Reverend, Peter Kandulu- principal resident magistrate has convicted and sentenced Medson Mbeya to 21 years imprisonment with hard labor for defiling her 13-year-old niece.
However, Kandulu has acquitted Lackson Chibwana aged 28 who was accused of defilement.
He has since sent a strong warning to would be offenders of defilement -that the law will not spare anyone found guilty.
