A latest forecast released by the Economic Intelligence Unit has hinted that the Tonse Alliance would not win in the 2025 general elections as the country is ‘grappling with a series of economic issues.
The research has also indicated the country would experience public protests to be provoked by endemic corruption, the rising rate of poverty, and limited economic opportunities.
On the other hand, the findings have projected country’s Gross Domestic Product will accelerate from 2024 if funding lines open up through the Extended Credit Facility, and also output in mining and agricultural sectors picks up.
This is despite the economy expected to continue saddled with high inflation, and exchange rate instability due to last year’s 25 percent devaluation of Kwacha.
‘’The ongoing cholera outbreak and Cyclone Freddy in early 2023 have had a devastating effect on the country and will weigh on growth this year. The government is attempting to restructure its debt to secure an extended credit facility (ECF) program with the IMF,’’ notes the report.
