All eyes are now on the courts which are expected to state whether Ombudsman Grace Malera, was legit in managing a probe into alleged unprocedural hiring of Henry Kachaje as Chief Executive Officer of Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority.
This comes as the state and energy Regulatory successfully obtained an injunction stopping Malera from publicizing the report today.
This injunction has seen the claimants challenging Malera’s conflict of interest as she also applied for the MERA’s CEO position.
But law expert Professor Garton Kamchedzera has told MIJ Online that only the court can interpret if Malera had interests in Kachaje’s case or not.
Speaking in an earlier interview, Ombudsman Grace Malera said her office will have to consult on way forward and decide whether to challenge it or not.
Meanwhile, an accountability watchdog Centre for Public Accountability has asked for an immediate resignation or sacking of Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority Mera board.
Kondwani Munthali – Acting Director for Centre for Public Accountability said they have given the board a 48 hours ultimatum for them to resign.
He has said the board has proved to be incompetent as they allowed an incompetent person on board.
