The Mozambican government has expressed commitment in strengthening trade deals with Malawi to facilitate economic development between the two countries.
Mozambican High Commissioner to Malawi-Elias Jamie Zimba-made the commitment when speaking to MIJ Online after touring pavilions on Monday at the ongoing Malawi International Trade Fair.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Zimba described the ongoing trade fair as an indication that Malawi is progressing especially in agri-business, a development that Mozambique welcomes being also an agro-based economy.
“It’s a very organized trade fair, I have been impressed with the kind of exhibitions I have seen here that allowed me to acquaint myself with the dynamics and vitality of the economy of Malawi and I reinforce my belief that Malawi is in the right path, the economy is growing stronger and we are going to see a different Malawi in the near future.” Said Zimba
Zimba has since expressed commitment on strengthened trade partnerships between Malawi and Mozambique adding that his country has a big market for Malawi products and its up for Malawians to utilize the same.
According to the Mozambican High Commissioner, the country shares the longest boarder with Malawi and the two countries continue to utilize their proximity in working together towards bettering their countries economy.
“You know Mozambique has gotten an economy based on agriculture of course over the years we are also discovering minerals and some pockets of industrial development, but agriculture still remains the backbone. So, I have seen similarities with Malawi and I think we have a lot to exchange in terms of experiences in as far as agriculture is concerned.” Explains Zimba
Zimba also expressed hope on the timely completion of the Malawi Mozambique Interconnection project to address power challenges facing the country.
He also applauded the string political will between the two countries in easing the way of doing business to maximize gains.
Zimba has since called on Malawian businesses to explore investment opportunities that exist in Mozambique and tap from already existing markets.
The Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry opened this year’s 32nd Malawi International Trade Fair on 28th July under the theme “Achieving Business Resilience Through Market Diversity” and the fair will run up to 7th August 2022.
