The Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi says failure to release the findings of a commission of inquiry over the killing and abduction of persons with albinism is a setback in putting to rest the abuses that the community is subjected to.
In 2019 former president Peter Mutharika instituted an eight-member commission headed by retired Judge Robert Chinangwa over the killing and attacks of persons with albinism.
In an interview with MIJ Online, Young Muhamba, president of the association said if the commission of inquiry was made to the general public, Malawians should have known the main reasons perpetrating the acts of violence and discrimination against persons with albinism.
Muhamba has also recommended the regulation of traditional doctors in the country, alleging that several studies have revealed that these attacks have been orchestrated by the doctors.
In 2020 president Lazarus Chakwera trashed the inquiry report saying it failed to establish perpetrators and market of human tissues and did not make public the findings.
