The Mzuzu First Grade Magistrate Court has sentenced seven Ethiopians to two months in jail and ordered four others to be deported.
The 11 Ethiopian nations were arrested at the start of the month for illegal entry into the country while hiding along the shores of Lake Malawi at Hangalawe in Karonga.
Speaking with MIJ Online, Francis Chitambuli, Spokesperson for the Immigration Department in the north, said First Grade Magistrate Robert Makaika sentenced seven Ethiopians to two months of imprisonment with hard labour.
Chitambuli said the other four who are minors had their case handled by First Grade Magistrate Clement Mwamale at the child Justice Court where he ordered to have them deported to their country of origin.
Meanwhile, all the convicts are at Mzuzu Prison, where 7 are serving their jail sentences and 4 are waiting for the Minister’s determination on deportation.
