Uncertainty over Nsanje rail project

Traditional leaders in Nsanje district have expressed displeasure with continued mis-under standings that are delaying a railway project in the district.

Government announced plans to connect a railway line between Marka, Bangula all the way to Limbe as one way of easing mobility challenges citizens from the lower shire district are facing.

Currently the project is delaying due to issues relating to the identification of a contractor following the nullification of the contract awarded to Mota-Engil by the countrys graft bursting body ACB.

Following the cancellation of the Mota-Engil contract government settled for CR 20 a Chinese contractor to do the work.

However some CSOs have ganged up against the start of the project seeking for a retendering of the project a development which some sections feel it will delay the project further.

Speaking to MIJ FM, senior chief Malemia from the district said the people of Nsanje need the project from yesterday and he wants the project to start as soon as possible.

He further asked Malawians to stop unnecessary squabbles that delays the projects and force the country to stagnate development wise.
