A call has gone out to Muslim youths in the country to focus on education in order to be productive citizens.
Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola made the call when presiding over Presentation of awards to Muslim youths in the National Quran Competition held at Blantyre Development and Education Center at Kameza in Blantyre.
Speaking to MIJ FM, Matola emphasized the need for youth in the country to develop knowledge on both secular and religious teachings as both are very crucial in the making of a responsible citizen.
The energy Minister has since advised Muslim youths to not only focus on Islamic education but also secular education in order to contribute to the national development in various capacities.
Meanwhile Sheikh Rad Kangomba, National Coordinator for the 2022 National Quran Competion said the competition which is held every year is aimed at assisting the Muslim youths to have deeper understanding of the Muslim Holy book by memorizing the scriptures which is vital for their spiritual development.
Over 200 participants contested in this year’s competition at regional level and 181 made it to the national level.
The winners in various categories went home with certificates, cash, mattress, food carriers and other items.
Hassan Mussah, a student at International College of Business and Management (ICBM) in Blantyre emerged the overall winner and has since received cash, 6 double mattresses and 1 single mattress, a bicycle and a trip to the United Arab Emirates where he will represent Malawi in world Holy Qur’an Recitation Competition scheduled to take place during this year’s Ramadan period.
