Human rights campaigners are banking hopes that the introduction of a secondary school at Mzuzu Prison will provide an opportunity for inmates to access quality education.

This comes as government has constructed a girlsโ€™ secondary school at the prison which is expected to start running this year.

In an interview with MIJ Online, Chimwemwe Shaba, Spokesperson for the Malawi Prison Service said the introduction of the education facility is aimed at promoting equal access to education.

Meanwhile, Victor Mhango, Executive Director for Centre for Human Rights Education, Advice and Assistance has challenged authorities to ensure that the education facility is given adequate financial and technical support.
