Water woes at Chiradzulu district hospital will now be a thing of the past following a donation of a K10 Million solar-powered water pump to the facility.
The donation was made as the mobile operator engaged a Private Citizens Initiative in collaboration with Sons and Daughters of Chiradzulu to support operations at the facility with a 3-kilowatt solar powered pump.
According to Chiradzulu Hospital Health Services Administrator Grant Kalua, the water pump will make the hospital more efficient and improve access to portable water.
Among other things, the pump will also ease water bills and at least K4 Million will be saved.
“Before the installation of this water supply, we had huge outstanding water bills accumulating. This donation from Airtel has greatly helped us reduce those costs which is a positive thing,” Kalua said.
On her part, Airtel Malawi Brands Manager Norah Chavura Chirwa said the firm’s staff put together K5 million while the company added K5 million in supporting the cause.
“This is one way of giving back to the community, as we continue to respond to the needs of Malawians,” Chirwa said.
Meanwhile Chirwa has urged authorities to ensure that there is enough security for the facility in the wake of concerns of theft at the hospital.
