Pressure continues to mount on attorney general Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda as various groupings want his office to rescind the decision of granting amnesty to corruption suspects.
Nyirenda has granted a sixty-day amnesty to those suspected to have stolen from government’s coffers.
But, according to the attorney general the amnesty will not apply to people the state has overwhelming evidence against, that is including Zunneth Sattar, Karim Batatawala and Zameer Karim.
However, Kondwani Munthali Executive Director for Center for Public Accountability has expressed shock with the decision saying it leaves a lot to be desired.
Munthali says there is need for the general public to know the names of the people given the amnesty and an explanation as to how much they are giving back to the government.

In addition, while downplaying the amnesty method of collecting the stolen money, Munthali has told MIJ Online that formulation of special financial related courts will assist to quicken the reduction of the current said backlog of cases.
Munthali has said this will assist speedy prosecution of corruption suspects-in so doing recovering the stolen money.
The amnesty was announced along with the attorney general announcement that government has terminated all contracts with businessman Sattar.
