Airtel settles 2.1 Billion Kwacha fine to CFTC

The Competition and Fair-Trading Commission (CFTC) has disclosed that mobile network provider-Airtel Malawi has finally paid the 2.1 Billion Kwacha fine issued by commission.

CFTC slapped Airtel Malawi with a fine of K2.1 billion for failing to pay bonuses to deserving customers in Khethekhethe promotion.

The commission has also slapped other companies for committing various offences in violation of provisions of the Competition and Fair-Trading Act

However, the company applied for a stay of execution of the payment but the application was dismissed with costs by the Court.

Speaking to MIJ Online, Apoche Itimu, Acting Executive Director of CFTC has told MIJ Online  that Airtel has finally paid the fine pending hearing of its appeal application.
