Blantyre Water Board BWB has attributed the smelly and colored water tap that its customers are receiving to a chemical the board is using to treat organic matter and silt in Mudi Dam.
The remarks by- Eveline Khonje- spokesperson of the board- comes as some customers in Blantyre have been complaining of colored smelly water that they have been receiving since last Friday.
Khonje said the organic matter which resulted from the cyclone Ana was producing an odor which mixed with the water causing it to smell.
She however said the board is using a chemical to treat the smell and the organic matter – which is changing the color of the water.
She assured BWB customers that they will receive clear water from today.
