Over 1,200 disaster affected families in Chikwawa have been reached with food assistance curtesy of the Enlightened Christian Gathering Church.
This follows Cyclone ANA that devastated many households in various parts of the country with the lower shire districts being some of the hardest hit.
Speaking after distributing maize to flood victims at Group village Malikopo area-ECG Leader Prophet Shepherd Bushiri said this is a response to a call for assistance from President Lazarus Chakwera who declared all affected areas as disaster areas.
“We have heard the declaration from the President that these places have been declared disaster areas so we have come here to assist in one way or another.” Said Bushiri
Bushiri has since urged faith leaders to take a leading role in assisting those in need as that is their true calling.
“We can’t be preaching on the pulpit that Jesus loves them without demonstrating that love. So, we have come here to demonstrate that love through works, by assisting these people. I believe that giving is the biggest pulpit that God has given to his servants”. he explained
Meanwhile Senior Chief Ngabu hailed ECG for a timely donation.
He has since called on other well-wishers to come and assist those in need with food items as well as shelter.
“I am very thankful to Prophet Bushiri church for the donation and I urge those that have received this food relief to utilize it well”. said Senior Chief Ngabu
So far ECG church has distributed relief items to 5,200 households in the districts of Mulanje, Thyolo and Chikwawa.
