The High Court in Blantyre is this morning expected to sentence a convicted police officer Andrew Chagaga, for raping a 17-year-old university student last year.
Chagaga was convicted on 15 July 2021 by Blantyre First Grade Magistrate Soka Banda but the case was moved to the High Court after State lawyers filed to have it moved, in pursuit of a stiff punishment because of the nature of the case.
The matter came to light, after the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences student talked to MIJ FM Radio through Zilipati program on claims that Chagaga threatened to kill the her if she revealed the ordeal to anyone.
Chagaga committed the offense on night of December 12, 2020 at Limbe police station.
