A 15-year-old boy has died after getting attacked by a crocodile in the Linthipe River in Dedza.
The victim, identified as Kelvin Maloni, was attacked at Mataka Village under Traditional Authority Kaphuka.
According to preliminary findings, Kelvin was swimming with friends at when a crocodile dragged him underwater, inflicting deep injuries on his left leg and right hand.
He bled heavily and died before community members, who rushed to the scene after receiving an alert, could rescue him.
Police officers from Linthipe Police Post visited the scene and took the body to Dedza District Hospital for postmortem.
Authorities in the district have since warned the public, particularly children, to avoid swimming or getting close to rivers during the rainy season, when crocodile activity and water levels rise.
