‘Fuel price hike reports are fake’- RBM

The Reserve Bank of Malawi has dismissed viral reports which claim that fuel prices have increased in the country.

This follows a viral document from the RMB detailing resolutions from a meeting by the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority and Energy Pricing Committee.

Among other things, the leaked document states that the committee adopted to hike fuel prices.

But speaking to MIJ Online, Ralph Tseka, Spokesperson for Reserve Bank of Malawi says it is not true that fuel prices have increased.

Meanwhile, Tseka has said they believe that the circular might have been leaked by unscrupulous individuals who attended the said meeting.

According to Tseka the bank will investigate and act on the person who has leaked the memo.

He has however not been drawn to comment on the contents of the document.

At the moment, the MERA has also disowned details in the document.
