Thirty-two people have been admitted at Mangochi District Hospital for suspected food poisoning, police say.
The victims are believed to have taken poisoned food at a funeral ceremony on February 22, 2020 at Makunganya Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chimwala in the district.
It is said that after a funeral ceremony of Witness Makiyoni there was supper which was prepared for the 32 victims.
Then after taking nsima they started opening bowels and vomiting.
The situation worsened on February 23, 2020 in which they were rushed to Mangochi District Hospital for treatment, according to Rodrick Maida, Public Relations Officer for Mangochi Police Station.
Police have since said they are probing the matter.
