The NGO Gender Coordination Network (NGOGCN) and Pamodzi Kuthetsa Nkhanza are urging government agencies, law enforcement, the judiciary, and service providers to step up with measures aimed at protecting women from online violence.
This appeal comes as the country is observing 16 Days of Gender-Based Violence under the theme “Unite to End Digital Gender-Based Violence.”
NGOGCN and WALREC director Maggie Kathewera Banda, highlighted alarming statistics that one in three women in the country experience sexual or physical violence, and 42% of women face abuse from intimate partners.
Banda further indicates that over 70% of women experience online abuse, manifesting in cyberbullying, non-consensual image sharing, and hate speech, which affects women’s psychological, economic, political, and physical well-being.
