Govt seals deal on macadamia nuts

All smiles to local farmers as the government has signed a landmark protocol allowing Malawian macadamia nuts to have a direct entry into the Chinese market.

According to authorities the agreement which was signed on 12th June 2025, is a huge milestone in the country’s efforts to expand its export markets and empower local farmers and traders.

Currently, Malawian macadamia nuts are exported to China through third-party countries which deprive local farmers of potential benefits.

In an interview with MIJ Online Vitumbiko Mumba Minister of Trade said that the agreement underscores the government’s agenda of promoting economic growth and development.

Mumba indicated that with this new agreement, Malawian farmers will be able to directly access the Chinese market which will increase their income and help in contributing to the country’s economic growth.
