Illovo Sugar Malawi (Plc) says it is grappling with shortages of forex, rising production costs and cross-border volume flows in its business environment.
The company says it is also facing challenges with a surge from informal traders and wet weather which is affecting season startup adding to sugar shortages.
Kondwani Msimuko, Acting Managing Director has disclosed this at the opening of its 2025 Investors Day at Mount Soche in Blantyre.
Msimuko said the company is looking at improving bottlenecks such as increasing local sourcing and generating forex to deliver results.
The company is also working on grower rehabilitation for self sufficiency as well as investing in power as it is a key cost of production.
