Minister of energy Ibrahim Matola has disclosed that the country is requiring over 2 billion kwacha to replace vandalized electricity transformers
Matola disclosed this during a press briefing in Lilongwe earlier today.
The minister was however quick to lament vandalism of transformers which he said is one of the major reasons stifling efforts to supply power to as many Malawians as possible.
Matola has indicated that at the current rate of vandalism, Escom is being forced to spend 4.5 million kwacha per day in fixing transformers.
He has since revealed that government has set up measures together with security agencies to deal with the problem.
