The Malawi Prison Service will soon be called the Malawi Correctional Services, if the service’s proposal for the change of name will be indorsed by authorities.
The aim behind the name change is to improve its public image.
Disclosing the proposal in an interview with MIJ Online, Chimwemwe Shaba, public relations officer for Malawi Prison Service observed that members of the public view prisons as punitive oriented institution.
However – Shaba noted that the service has been introducing a number of reformation programs – aimed at reforming the prisoners, instead of punishing them, hence the need for the re-branding.
