President Peter Mutharika, has returned to the country from a private visit to the Republic of South Africa with a message of unity.
The plane carrying President Mutharika landed at Kamuzu International Airport.
Mutharika said the Malawi Scorchers have achieved what politicians have failed to do by uniting the country.
He said he wished the team well ahead of their match tomorrow and expressed hope that they would “bring back the bacon.”
“The Scorchers have managed to achieve something that we politicians have never been able to do, and that is to unite the country,” Mutharika said.
He called on Malawians to maintain the spirit of unity beyond football and work together to develop the country.
Mutharika said football provides a good example of selflessness and collective effort.
Mutharika left the country on 5 August 2026.
