The National Bank of Malawi (NBM) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting sports development in the country.
This was revealed during the launch of the MO626 Varsity Games held at the Mzuzu University Sports Arena.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Akossa Hiwa the Bank’s Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager, highlighted the importance of sports in promoting teamwork, critical thinking, and resilience among students.
She said these values are vital for personal and professional growth, hence the bank’s continued investment in sports in institutions of higher learning.
Meanwhile, TESAM Vice President Geoffrey Biya commended the National Bank for its support, noting that the initiative will help identify and nurture talent in various sporting disciplines across tertiary institutions.
On his part, Mzuzu University Vice Chancellor, Wales Singini, described the sponsorship as a timely intervention that provides students with an opportunity to develop their sporting skills, something the university struggles to offer due to limited resources.
A total of about eight hundred million kwacha has been set aside to support basketball, netball, and football in colleges nationwide.
