The family of former Zambian President Edgar Lungu has announced that it will appeal the ruling of the Pretoria High Court which ordered that Lungu’s body be repatriated from South Africa to Zambia for burial.
The court’s decision was made in the interest of the public given the former president’s stature and significance to the nation.
Lungu passed away two months ago while receiving medical attention in South Africa.
However, his burial has been delayed due to disagreements between his family and the Zambian government over the location of his final rest.
The family had reportedly wanted to bury him in South Africa while the government insisted that he should be buried in Zambia.
The family’s decision to appeal the court’s ruling means that the dispute over Lungu’s burial location will continue.
