Rotary International District Governor for 9210, Victor Mensah has urged Rotarians and partners of Rotary Clubs to be actively involved in community service by supporting the Girl Child, Youths and Women.
Mensah said this ahead of Rotary International District 9210 Conference to be held in Harare, Zimbabwe from 11 to 14th May 2022 under the theme “Enjoy Rotary, Change lives”.
Speaking on Wednesday, during a media briefing that was held on Zoom, Mensah said the conference this year has been dedicated to community service in three different areas of Health, environment and Girls, Youths and Women empowerment.
He urged Rotary Clubs to do more in supporting Community economic empowerment inorder to help community members who are still battling the effects of COVID-19 to bounce back.
“COVID-19 affected us all, the impact of COVID-19 has been very devastating even for our Rotary Clubs especially in Africa. Most of our members were affected, COVID-19 has brought down the numbers of our members but we are still holding firm because we believe that even if your fortune reduces, you can still help others. It’s part of the values that Rotarians hold so dearly” – said Mensah.
Mensah has also urged the Rotarians to use the Conference to network with other Clubs and partners and also take part in setting targets for next year.
He said; “We are meeting to take stock of our work, to set targets for next year and to set systems that will guide us to do more. We will be showcasing how much Rotarians have enjoyed through serving lives in our communities and we will also have an Annual District Assembly where our members will vote for decisions and make plans for the next year.”
Mensah said, the Conference has also dedicated its last day, the 14th May as a day of community service where among others, Rotarians shall travel to Murehwa to the Shavenhowe River in Zimbabwe to hand over a Bridge built by Rotarians and partners.
The project was motivated by the needless loss of lives at the crossing during the rainy season. About 19 people had drown in the river whilst trying to cross it and of these 14 were school-going children while 5 were adults. (According to Harare City Rotary Club).
Rotary International is a non-political and non-religious humanitarian service organization which brings together business and professional leaders in order to provide community service, promote integrity, and advance goodwill, peace, and understanding in the world.
Currently, the Organization is supporting Malawi and neighboring countries with Polio Immunization and it also assisted when Malawi and Mozambique were hit by Cyclone Ana. The Organization also raised over 7 million US dollars for COVID-19 support.
Rotary Clubs in one geographical region are clustered into Zones, then Districts. District 9210 is one of more than 500 Districts in the world and there are 67 Rotary Clubs in District 9210 which consists of Zambia, Malawi, Northern Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
