GIZ Malawi and the African Women Fish Processors and Traders Network (AWFISHNET) Malawi chapter have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the capacity of women in the fish value chain.
The partnership, under GIZ’s Sustainable Aquatic Food project (SAF), aims to improve AWFISHNET’s systems, coordination and visibility.
Through this partnership, AWFISHNET will among others receive support in training and development programs to enhance the skills of women in the fisheries sector.
It will also help in strengthening AWFISHNET’s organizational framework to improve its effectiveness and provide necessary resources and equipment to support their activities.
Speaking to MIJ Online Rhoda Mkumbwa Secretary General for AWFISHNET Malawi chapter expressed delight with GIZ Malawi’s gesture arguing that it will help to transform fish value chain in Malawi and support their policy advocacy interventions.
Meanwhile, Alan Walsch Country Director for GIZ Malawi reaffirmed their commitment to continue promoting women in business.
Walsch indicated that GIZ is committed to seeing AWFISHNET grow in strength and numbers to ably support the fish value chain and food system in Malawi.
The project is implemented by GIZ with support from the German government through the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
