The Tobacco Commission (TC) has revealed that the 2025 tobacco selling season has generated over 800 billion kwacha in revenue.
This comes as of 5th August, a total of about 185 million kilogrammes of tobacco had been sold, valued at slightly over 473 million dollars.
The amount translates to over 800 billion kwacha which is a huge boost to the country’s economy.
Meanwhile, the 2025 tobacco selling season, which started on 9th April, will close on 29th August after 21 weeks of trading.
Speaking to MIJ Online Telephorus Chigwenembe, Public Relations Officer for TC said that the tobacco production in 2025 is the highest for the country in six years.
According to Chigwenembe, the average price of US$2.55 per kilogramme has contributed to the record-breaking sales.
