Truck drivers strike again

The Truck Drivers Union of Malawi has intervened in a dispute between drivers and management at National Wide Truck Company.
This comes as drivers at the company have gone on strike to demand improved working conditions and allowances.
The drivers are seeking higher allowances, ranging from MK50,000 to MK100,000 per trip, depending on the route.
Currently, the drivers have claimed that they receive a flat rate of 16,000 kwacha per trip, regardless of the number of days they spend on the road.
Additionally, they also want to be paid allowances for external trips in line with government regulations.
Meanwhile the Truck Drivers Union of Malawi is working to bring the parties together to negotiate a mutually acceptable solution.
Francis Munthali, Secretary General of the union has told MIJ Online that their intervention aims to resolve the dispute and get the drivers back to work.
